Lib Dems demand Government comes clean over Post Office closures.

Ahead of the local elections on May 3rd, Liberal Democrats in Eastbourne & Willingdon are asking, "Will the government publish their Post Offices hit list?"

The consultation has finished and the government were supposed to report by the end of March but have shelved their response until after the local elections. Under the governments plans an average of three to four more Post Offices per constituency may close but no definite figures can be known until the government publish their hit list.

Stephen Lloyd, parliamentary campaigner said: "The government should publish their Post Office hit list before the local elections on May 3rd as this is the last chance people in Eastbourne & Willingdon will have to tell the government what they think of their plans. The government intend to close at least 2,500 Post Offices across the UK and under their direction, a list has been drawn up of which ones are to be closed. We need to know which, if any, in Eastbourne & Willingdon are affected

"Since 1999 six of our Post Offices have closed. With the help of local residents in Hampden Park we successfully campaigned to get a new Post Office in Brassey Avenue when the old one was closed, but I remain very concerned that some of the remaining Post Offices in Eastbourne may be under threat."
