Lifeline goes from strength to strength

August 20, 2008 12:00 AM

Stephen LloydLib Dem parliamentary campaigner Stephen Lloyd paid a recent visit to Wealden and Eastbourne Lifeline (WEL) at their offices in Eastbourne.

Stephen said: "I was tremendously impressed with the whole operation. Meeting with their Managing Director, Mark Bannister and Corporate Services Manager, Marisa Parker, I was brought up to speed with all the services they provide. These range far wider than I had originally thought and include providing the out of hours telephone service to a broad range of organisations as diverse as Eastbourne Borough Council, Rother and Lewes District Council as well as Southern Horizon and Rother Homes."

He added: "The core Lifeline service, whereby vulnerable people are instantly able to notify WEL's 24 hour contact centre if they are experiencing any difficulties in their home, is still a mainstay of their provision; however they are now able to offer a wide range of sensors to help people to stay safe and keep their independence. An impressive 4,000 households in Eastbourne use them. There are many more elderly and vulnerable people in Eastbourne who would benefit from Lifeline so I have no hesitation in urging residents to take out the service. Recently a local resident, Mrs Doris Kail, contacted me to say just how much she had valued being a user of their Lifeline service before she moved into a residential home in Silverdale Road, Meads."

Mark Bannister, MD of WEL added: "I welcomed the opportunity to meet with Stephen. WEL provides an important service to many vulnerable people across the whole of East Sussex. Our approach is to offer packages of equipment and services specifically designed to promote our customers safety, security and independence, within their own home. We employ over 50 staff within Eastbourne and are hopeful this will expand over the next five years as the service continues to grow. If any local resident would like to know more about what we provide, we can be contacted on 01323 644422 or via our website: www.welbeing.org.uk "
