Ocklynge Walking Bus goes from strength to strength

October 14, 2008 12:00 AM

Ocklynge walking busOcklynge School which launched its 'walking bus' service early in the year is growing in popularity, heard Old Town resident and School Governor, Stephen Lloyd, who joined them this week to see for himself.

Stephen said: "It was a real pleasure to see how the Ocklynge Walking Bus is growing as I know the first attempt last year petered out through lack of support. This time though it really does seem to be succeeding which is good news. Not least as I was wholeheartedly in favour of the idea when it was first raised at a Governors meeting a year or so ago."

"On my visit, there were 22 children in the group and four parent volunteers. Apparently forty children have joined the scheme so far. It was an excellent opportunity for me to speak with the parent volunteers who, like so many others, give up their time freely to support the Walking Bus. Like all our local schools, Ocklynge is very well served by its parent volunteers. I know the staff appreciate all the effort they put into helping make Ocklynge such a fantastic school."

Mr Alan Shuttleworth, a teacher from Ocklynge, added: "It was good to have Stephen join us to see how the Walking Bus actually works. The support of all our Governors on this initiative has been valuable. It's part of Ocklynge Schools overall package to promote healthy living and to get our children to really start thinking about the environment in a different way. I am confident the scheme's popularity will grow even more in the future."
