Stay alert, say local health campaigners

January 20, 2009 1:16 PM

Group of young women with Stephen Lloyd, promoting the ‘stay alert’ car stickersLocal health campaigners are giving away free car stickers, asking Eastbourne residents to stay alert and be vigilant over any future threats to services at the DGH.

The cross-party 'Save the DGH' campaign group has produced stickers as a visual reminder about the people's campaign that stopped major cuts in Maternity and other key services at our local hospital.

Eastbourne campaigner Stephen Lloyd commented, "Thanks to tremendous pressure from local people, health bosses were forced to stop their plans to cut Maternity services at the DGH. People power won the day, but that doesn't mean we can be complacent about the future. It's vital that we all keep close watch on any future plans that affect our local hospital."

"This issue will keep going and that's why I am still very active in the cross-party campaign. The 'Save the DGH' campaign committee recently met to get feedback on the situation at the hospital, to make sure that health bosses are sticking to the decision to keep two sites - both in Eastbourne and Hastings."

"We understand some of those who wanted a single-site option are less than enthusiastic about promoting the idea of two sites. The campaign group are keeping vigilant and it's vital the town also remind local health bosses to keep to their word. I strongly urge all residents to display their car sticker for all to see."

Residents can get their free car sticker from Stephen Lloyd's town centre office at 100 Seaside Road, weekdays between 10am and 12pm or Saturdays from 1030 until 1230. Alternatively they can call Stephen on 733030 for their free sticker.
