Lib Dems say THANK YOU!

June 13, 2009 12:13 PM

Local Lib Dem team say thank youStephen Lloyd and the local Lib Dems have said thank you to residents for their tremendous support in the recent local and Euro elections.

In Eastbourne, the Lib Dems comfortably held their existing County Council seats in St Anthonys, Hampden Park, Langney and Devonshire whilst significantly increasingly the Lib Dem majority in Old Town. Pat Rodohan also won Upperton for the Lib Dems - becoming the first Lib Dem ever to win the County Council seat there. The Lib Dems also came incredibly close to winning Sovereign and the Conservative stronghold of Ratton.

At the European elections in Eastbourne, the Conservative's share of the vote fell by almost 8% from last time, whilst the Lib Dems increased their vote. Across the South East, the Lib Dems kept their two MEPs - Sharon Bowles and Catherine Bearder.

Local Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Lloyd said, "I want to thank everyone who supported our positive campaign for change in Eastbourne."

"Our local Lib Dem County Councillors will keep their word and stand up for local people at the County Council, fighting against Conservative waste and making sure our money is spent properly."

Time for change

"Local people have been telling me that Eastbourne needs change. At the General Election, residents will be able to vote for that change. Eastbourne and Willingdon residents will be asked to decide the answer to one simple question: who is the best person to be our next local MP?"

"Many people have told me they feel let down by our current Conservative MP. From backing the unpopular parking charges to attacking the first campaign to stop cuts at the DGH, it's clear that our MP has got many of the big decisions wrong time and time again.

"People tell me we need a full-time local champion, who will put people before politics, not someone who only lives here part-time and spends the rest of the week at his family home in Beckenham, Kent."

"With Labour and the Green Party out of the race, just a few votes will separate the Lib Dems from the part-time Conservative."
