Hampden Park Tesco slammed

August 23, 2009 6:36 PM

Stephen Lloyd in Brassey parade outside TescoThe Tesco store at Hampden Parks Brassey Parade has been slammed for failing to replace the boarded up windows above their retail site.

Lib Dem parliamentary campaigner Stephen Lloyd said: "I was very disappointed to discover that Tesco Stores have failed to replace the boarded up windows in the flat that they own above the shop. It is highly unprofessional for the Store to have left these unsightly windows for so long without bothering to replace them with glass. Shop owners in Brassey Parade are doing their level best in this difficult economic climate and to have such a wealthy retailer like Tesco casually ignore their responsibility is a disgrace. We all know how important it is to present to the customer a positive image and to leave these windows in such a shoddy state is not helping our shopping parade."

Stephen added: "I will be writing to Tesco insisting they take action as soon as possible. In addition, I will be contacting the Empty Homes Unit at the council, to ask they take legal steps if Tesco continue to treat Hampden Park shoppers in such a contemptuous manner. I am no fan of Tesco's mighty power at the best of times and opposed their new store in Meads because I was, and remain, anxious that the retail giant pays scant regard to the needs of local, independent shop owners. Their cavalier attitude in Brassey Parade has done nothing to change my mind on that score."
