Shoddy road repairs in Old Town

Old Town campaigner Andrew Goodwin by the damaged road.
Repairs to Eldon Road undertaken by East Sussex County Council have been criticised by Old Town Liberal Democrats.
Old Town campaigner Andrew Goodwin said: "I have been contacted by a number of Old Town residents who are very angry at the poor quality of repair that had been undertaken in Eldon Road. One fairly recent piece of work can only be described as a bodge job. It was of such poor quality the heavy rains and traffic have meant a dangerous pothole has already reappeared. Frankly if a private contractor had done such a bad job on someone's front drive they would have been reported to Trading Standards. And for good measure probably ended up on the television consumer programme Watchdog for shoddy workmanship!"
He added: "There are a number of other roads in Old Town that aggrieved residents have contacted me about such as Hill and Filching Road, which are also badly in need of repair. I will be writing to the Director of Highways and Environment at East Sussex County Council, Robert Wilkins, to request his team return to Eldon Road to do a proper job, as well as ask that the Council take appropriate steps to re-tarmac the other damaged roads in Old Town."
