Tesco agree to take action in Hampden Park

September 29, 2009 12:00 PM

Stephen LloydThe Tesco Express in Brassey Parade, Hampden Park, which has had boarded up windows above the retail outlet for over six months has recently responded to Stephen Lloyds demands that action be taken.

Stephen said: "I was angry that Tesco had chosen to ignore the boarded up windows above their Store for so long. They should have known more than anyone how vital it is in a shopping parade to keep up a positive image for the area. Leaving the windows in the flat above, which they own, boarded up has not been helpful at all to all the other shops and businesses in Brassey Parade. However, I have just heard from Tesco Head Office that they are now going to remedy the situation, which is a step in the right direction."

A representative from Tesco wrote to Stephen saying: "The flat above the Hampden Park Express store had problems with break ins and also had been gutted by fire. In order to prevent further break-ins and arson attacks, we arranged security boards on all the windows. I can advise that we have agents looking into this for us. Recently our contractors were asked to attend the site to quote for all works required. However, on visiting site they discovered that pigeons had gained access. I can advise that a pest control company has been instructed to attend and remove the pigeons and also carry out a thorough clean of the flat so that the contractors can revisit the site. Whilst I am unable to give you exact dates of when this situation will be rectified, I can assure you that we are continuing to look at ways of resolving the matter in the very near future. Thank you for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention."

Stephen Lloyd added: "I will be keeping a close eye on the situation in Brassey Parade to make sure that Tesco are as good as their word. It is unfortunate they only took action when I became involved but the most important step now is that they just get on with it. Other traders and customers in Hampden Park deserved better from such a major company as Tesco plc."
