Bob Young with colleagues, Stephen Lloyd and the Sussex Food and Drinks Award 2010.There are no post holiday blues for Bob the Butcher. He came home to find that Meads Village Butchers have picked up the coveted 'Sussex Food and Drink Award 2010'.

Despite only being open for less than a year this local business has been rewarded for their high quality of produce and service.

There were concerns from residents about the future of the independent traders in Meads Village with the recent opening of the Tesco Express. Stephen Lloyd, Parliamentary Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, congratulated Mr Robert Young on his achievement and said, "I understand perfectly why so many Meads residents did not want the Tesco to open in their High Street, which is why we all fought so hard against the development. What this Award proves though is that people recognise and appreciate individual quality and friendly service from their local shop. Small businesses like the Meads Village Butchers give a High Street character as well as making shopping a pleasure."

Mr Young added, "I am delighted to receive the Award. We could not have done it without the enthusiasm and help of our customers. I really appreciate the support of everyone that values quality, locally sourced produce.

He went on to say, "The other bit of good news is that we are opening a Meads Village Butchers sausage and pie shop, near the station, in a few weeks. Eastbourne is a town with a future and we are determined to be part of its success.
