Stephen Lloyd announces Procurement Day

November 26, 2010 12:00 PM

A major drive to generate new business opportunities for Eastbourne companies gets underway next month.

Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and the MP's Commission have persuaded all the public sector bodies to sit down with local business leaders to discuss how they can win new business from them.

It could unlock the door to new orders worth hundreds of thousands of pounds … and more importantly, allow local employers to take on more staff to meet the demand.

The Procurement Day takes place on Wednesday December 3. Every single public sector body, with a combined spend on UK suppliers running into many millions of pounds, will attend.

Stephen Lloyd said: "Our fantastic bodies, such as the Eastbourne DGH, the police, fire service and the ambulance, rely on products and services from the private sector.

"Where possible, I want them to spend their money on Eastbourne companies so that we keep our local economy as buoyant as possible. I am really excited about our first ever Procurement Day and I am confident that the MP's Commission can persuade these organisations to explore ways they can involve our fantastic local companies," he said.

"I am sure the public bodies who raise so much money through taxes from Eastbourne will do what it takes to allow our local firms to win new business."
