Eastbourne’s Economy Continues to ‘Buck the Trend’

February 16, 2013 12:02 PM

Recent data has shown the number of empty shops in the town centre is down, unemployment is falling and more jobs are on the way.

Commenting Stephen Lloyd MP said "This is fantastic news and underlines that our town continues to buck the trend. This is as a result of the strong and ongoing partnership efforts by many people and organisations across our town. The way in which we are all pulling together means Eastbourne continues to grow, despite the challenging national economic climate."

Simon Hunt, Partner at Stiles Harold Williams added "We have seen retail and industrial enquiries pick up after a slow start and now we have a shortage of good quality stock. We were very pleased to sell 13,000 sq.ft. of offices at Esher House which had remained vacant for 10 years, and are now back in employment generating use. We have also just let nearly 5,000 sq.ft. of offices in Gildredge Road, offering further employment opportunities. While economic conditions remain challenging, many businesses are now taking advantage of the opportunities that exist to move forward."
