Unemployment figures continue dropping in Eastbourne and Willingdon

July 22, 2013 9:57 AM

The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in Eastbourne and Willingdon dropped again the last month, according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics.

In addition, there are 16,000 more people in work in the UK than last month and 336,000 more in comparison to this time last year.

Commenting Stephen Lloyd MP said: "This fall in the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance in Eastbourne and Willingdon is a welcome sign. The drop, combined with the rise in the total number of people in employment, shows that Eastbourne is continuing to buck the trend as people continue to pull together despite the challenging economic climate over the last few years.

"It is clearly a positive step forward, but we have to remain focussed on creating jobs and growing our local economy. That is why my continuous unrelenting focus as the town's MP is around promoting job creation and encouraging local businesses in Eastbourne to see our town for what it is - a wonderful place to invest."
