Lloyd quizzes Lord Ashdown about his life at Hydro dinner

June 30, 2014 4:24 PM

Last week Paddy Ashdown visited Eastbourne to attend a fundraising dinner for MP Stephen Lloyd. The dinner, held at the Hydro Hotel, was one of Stephen's continuing 'Going4Gold' fundraising events, leading up to the General Election in 2015.

Stephen said: "It was a pleasure to welcome Paddy to our lovely town. Such a tremendous turnout for the dinner showed that he is one of those individuals who generates interest across a wide spectrum of people. The topics we touched on as I interviewed him, included his stint with the SBS (Special Boat Service); his time as a Royal Marine in Belfast during the Troubles; what drove him to become involved in politics and, of particular interest to the guests, his views and experiences as High Representative of Bosnia-Herzegovina. I am sure I am not the only one who wondered if his particular skills may have been put to good use in Afghanistan?"

Lord Ashdown added: "It's always a pleasure for me to visit Eastbourne, a town which has a special place in my memory from the by-election almost 25 years ago. It was an interesting experience for me to be interviewed by Stephen, and to take questions from the many guests about the whole of my life experience, rather than just as the former leader of a political party. It was a lovely evening and a real pleasure for me to support such an outstanding local MP of whom we are all very proud."
