New Date for vital HOSC meeting

July 16, 2014 4:08 PM

A new date has been set for the Health Overview Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) Meeting that will discuss the Clinical Commissioning Group's (CCG) decision to permanently remove Consultant-led Maternity and Paediatrics from the DGH. The committee will now sit on 28th July after the meeting on 10th July was postponed.

HOSC was due to meet on the 10th to give their view on the CCG's plans but was postponed due to strike action. This meeting presents the final opportunity for HOSC to overturn the CCG's plans to remove Consultant-led maternity from Eastbourne to the Secretary of State for Health. Last time the Hospital Trust attempted this change, back in 2008, HOSC took the opportunity to refer it on to the Independent Reconfiguration Panel who overturned the proposals. Campaigners are hoping that HOSC will repeat this course of action on the 28th, and are urging people to contact the HOSC Councillor before the meeting.

Stephen said: "It was a huge blow that the CCG have decided to rob Eastbourne of its Consultant-led maternity services. However last time HOSC met, they voted on a similar motion tabled by my Head of Office councillor Alan Shuttleworth, which only lost by 1 vote. If we can reach all the councillors who voted against our local hospital we might be able to get this referred again, and just possibly stop the changes. So it is absolutely imperative that everybody writes to the Councillors on HOSC asking that they support full maternity provision at our hospitals.
