Lloyd urges people to contact their local Councillor ahead of crucial maternity committee decision

July 22, 2014 4:12 PM

Ahead of the rescheduled Health Overview Scrutiny Committee (HOSC) meeting taking place next Monday, 28th July, Stephen Lloyd MP has urged everyone to take this last chance to contact their East Sussex County Councillor asking them to support full maternity provision at both the DGH and Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

The meeting will discuss the Clinical Commissioning Group's (CCG) decision to permanently remove Consultant-led Maternity and Paediatrics from the DGH, and is the last opportunity for HOSC to refer the decision to the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP), as previously happened when similar proposals were put forward, unsuccessfully, in 2008.

At the last HOSC meeting a motion put forward by Langney Cllr Alan Shuttleworth, and supported by Old Town Cllr John Ungar, proposing that the consultation process had been flawed and should be referred to an independent clinical body was defeated by just one vote.

Stephen said: "I would like to once again urge everyone who hasn't already done so to contact the Councillors sitting on the Committee to ask them to support a referral to the IRP. This is our last opportunity to push for such a referral. Given how close the vote was last time, it is vital that we all do what we can to persuade the County Councillors who voted against Cllrs Shuttleworth and Ungar's motion, to support the SavetheDGH Campaign and Eastbourne's demand for the return of consultant-led maternity services at our DGH."
