Save Langney Community Library

September 13, 2017 11:21 AM

East Sussex County Co libraryuncil have taken the unprecedented step of proposing the closure of seven libraries in East Sussex. Langney library is sadly one of the proposed libraries under consideration for closure.

Despite the lack of resources within the area and the high number of registered users of the library, the Conservative led County Council has forged ahead in what it sees as an effort to cut costs. Fortunately Langney County Councillor Alan Shuttleworth has pledged to fight the closure.

Councillor Shuttleworth earlier today joined local residents at Langney library to launch a campaign to fight these proposals. Councillor Shuttleworth said, "We fought hard to get a library in the heart of the Langney community in the Shopping Centre and we intend to fight to keep it … access to library facilities is an important lever for raising life chances through education and information to help families"

The Council will be consulting on the proposed closures for the next 12 weeks. Councillor Shuttleworth asks all residents to get make their voices heard by challenging this proposal.
