Southern Rail Ticket Price Rise

EB stationAre Southern Rail having a laugh?

I have just written to the Prime Minister asking that her government caps the fares for Southern Rail, in the same way they did for the proposed fuel tax rise in the budget.

From January next year the fares are set to go up, on average, by 3.4%, the biggest increase in five years. For commuters in Eastbourne, this could see the cost of their 12-month season ticket rise by as much as £184!

Despite the dispute between the drivers' union and the company coming to an end, commuters on Southern rail still experience delays and cancelled trains as part of the 'normal' service. It's just not good enough.

Bluntly, I do not believe Southern Rail deserve a fare increase from hard pressed commuters, and have said so to Theresa May.

I hope the Prime Minister does the right thing.....
